Men's Lacrosse Drops 7-5 Contest at Eastern

(box score)

Senior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) recorded a goal and an assist, but it was not enough as Widener fell 7-5 to Eastern in St. Davids, PA.

The Pride scored the first goal just 2:30 into the game when Malampy assisted junior Steve Cull (Havertown, PA). Freshman Mike Vandegrift (Jenkintown, PA) also tallied to make it 2-0 with 7:29 left in the first quarter.

Eastern cut the lead in half at 2-1 late in the first quarter when Cameron Tough assisted Chris Farrar.

Widener scored the first three goals of the second quarter to expand its lead to 5-1.  Sophomore Nate Meyer (Jenkintown, PA) assisted freshman Josh Lovelace (Hockessin, DE) just 16 seconds into the stanza.  Junior Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) tallied just over a minute later, and sophomore Ryan Shewell (Ellicott City, MD) assisted Malampy with 9:46 left in the half to make it a four-goal cushion.

It was all Eastern from there, however.  The Eagles cut the lead to 5-3 with just over a minute left in the first half on a man-up goal by Matt Wagner.  Eastern scored the only three goals of the third quarter and tallied late in the fourth for the game's final six goals and a 7-5 victory.

Aaron Benz recorded the win in for the Eagles (3-2, 1-0 MAC).  Will Johnson scored three goals and assisted another.

Freshman Bobby Schluter (Kennett Square, PA) made 16 saves for the Pride (1-4, 0-1).

Widener on Saturday travels to Annville, PA for a conference matchup against Lebanon Valley at 1:00 pm.
