Track and Field Opens Indoor Campaign at Jack Pyrah Invitational

Widener made a statement in the field events as the 2010-11 indoor season began at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, competed in both Villanova and Haverford, PA.
 
Senior Brad Moran (Neshanic Station, NJ) captured the shot put in a career-best 15.51 meters, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships.  He defeated four Division I athletes in the process for Widener, the defending Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor and Outdoor champion.
 
The victories over D-I schools continued with freshman Mick Coleman (Southampton, NJ) taking the pole vault at 4.25 meters, also topping four such competitors. Coleman needed just one attempt at the final height to win on a judge's decision.
 
Freshman Dennis Nguyen (Springfield, PA) was third in the pole vault at 3.95 meters, senior Jacob Munick (Narberth, PA) was fourth in the weight throw at 16.18 meters and Moran closed fifth at 14.00 meters.
 
For the women, sophomore Rebecca Sewell (Hackettstown, NJ) was fifth in the shot put at 10.58 meters. Freshman Colleen Spiller (Flemington, NJ) was tied for the sixth-best high jump at 1.48 meters, but ended tied for seventh on a judge's decision.
 
Widener on December 11 takes part in the Haverford Holiday Meet.
