Widener ran into a vastly superior squad in No. 9 William Paterson and was dealt a 59-40 setback at Schwartz Center.
William Paterson (14-0) left no doubt early, racing to a 29-17 halftime lead by shooting 41 percent (11-of-27) from the floor. Elisa Brown scored 10 points in the half on 4-of-5 shooting and BriAnna Lucas netted eight.
Widener (6-7) did not help itself by hitting only 32 percent (8-of-25) from the field to go with 13 turnovers and just one free throw attempt.
Sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington, PA) had nine points and nine rebounds with freshman Vanessa Hejnas (Delran, NJ) adding a season-high 10 rebounds for the Pride, who shot 38 percent (18-of-48) and could not overcome 25 turnovers.
The Pioneers pilfered 18 steals versus only six turnovers and attempted 26 free throws to just nine for the Pride.
Widener resumes play in the Commonwealth Conference on Saturday, when it visits No. 17 Messiah in Grantham, PA as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The women's game starts at 2:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 4:00 pm.
