2/28/2026 8:00:00 AM

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Basketball will once again make an appearance in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game. After a gutsy win against Alvernia, the Pride will travel to Grantham, Pa. to face off against number one seeded Messiah on Saturday, February 28th. Tip off is set for 3:00 P.M.

The Pride go into this match up with a 21-5 overall record and finished the regular season with an 11-3 record in conference play, securing them the number two seed.

Messiah comes into this game with a 22-4 overall record, finishing with a 13-1 record in conference play, giving them the number one seed.

Messiah won both games during the regular season series, winning game one by a score of 75-69 and game two by a score of 62-52.

The Pride are powered by their guard play in senior Lindsay Kutz and sophomore Riley Stackhouse. Kutz continues to be the team's steady, all-around force, averaging 13.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting an efficient .438 from the field. Stackhouse, building on an impressive freshman campaign, has further solidified her role as a building block of the program. She is averaging 12.0 points and 1.7 assists per contest while shooting .402 from the floor, proving herself as a reliable scoring threat.

Widener's depth has been equally instrumental to its success. First-year guard Liliana Metrick has looked like a veteran in her first collegiate season, contributing 7.0 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting .379 from the field and .298 from beyond the arc. In the paint, Avalynn Baer has flourished in a starting role, posting 10.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, along with 1.4 steals, and shooting .436 from the field. Meanwhile, sophomore guard Jayla Daniels has emerged as a defensive catalyst, leading the team with 63 steals and adding 2.8 assists per game.

The winner of this match up will claim the MAC Commonwealth title and also advance to the NCAA Tournament. Game times are to be determined.
