Men's Lacrosse's Three-Game Winning Streak Snapped with 7-6 Loss at FDU-Florham

Widener could not break through against FDU-Florham and saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 7-6 Middle Atlantic Conference loss in Madison, NJ.

Sophomore JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) scored twice in the second quarter to help the Pride (5-6, 4-2 MAC) close to a 5-4 deficit at halftime.  Junior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) also tallied in the period.

Jason Koontz scored 1:50 into the third quarter to give FDU a 6-4 lead, but Hoeffler answered less than a minute later for a one-goal game.  Kevin Shadiack found the back of the net with 10:11 to play in the quarter before senior Justin Upp (Camden, DE) scored with 5:32 remaining for a 7-6 contest.

The fourth quarter saw Widener get five shots including two on net, all stopped by goalkeeper Alex Kajencki.  Sophomore Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) had his shot in the last minute saved and Malampy's shot in the closing seconds went wide.

Malampy scored twice in addition to Hoeffler notching his first career hat trick.  Sophomore Kevin Carney (Ridley, PA) kept Widener in the game with 16 saves.

Shadiack scored three times and Kajencki made eight saves for the Devils (9-3, 7-0).

Widener is tied for third place in the MAC with Elizabethtown and holds the tiebreaker.  The Pride on Saturday visit No. 15 Cabrini at 1:00 pm.
