Widener moved into sole possession of third place in the Middle Atlantic Conference with its fourth victory in six outings, 12-4 over DeSales at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
Widener (6-7, 5-2 MAC) scored the first seven goals spanning just over 26 minutes. Sophomore JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ), who netted a career-best four goals, buried a pair in that span with senior Justin Upp (Camden, DE) and junior Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) adding one and one assist.
The Pride, who held a 12-1 lead in the final three minutes, owned a 32-23 shots edge that included 12-1 in the first quarter.
Malampy and freshman Johnny Casey (Glenside, PA) netted two goals apiece with sophomore Mike Holtz (Easton, PA) dishing two assists for Widener. Sophomore Kevin Carney (Ridley, PA) made seven saves over 45 minutes.
Matthew Brancaccio had a goal and an assist with Jarryd Stamatelos stopping seven shots for the Bulldogs (3-9, 2-5).
Widener is one game in front of Elizabethtown (4-3) for third place and 1 1/2 games in back of Lycoming (7-1) for second.
Widener and Lycoming do battle Saturday in Williamsport, beginning at 1:00 pm.
