Men's Swimming Defeats Swarthmore and Women Fall

Widener's men's swimming team posted a 118-87 victory over Swarthmore and the women suffered a 114-90 loss as part of the “320 Challenge” at Schwartz Center.

 

Junior Jesse Bregman (Oreland, PA) won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.46 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.46 seconds.  His third win was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that stopped the clock in 3:17.49 and also consisted of Brandon Smith (Marietta, PA), fellow freshman Nick Moore (Philadelphia, PA) and junior Dalton Schiller (Media, PA).

 

Sophomore Joe Deighan (Wyomissing, PA) also had three wins.  He took the 200-yard IM in 2:02.54 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.03.  Deighan was part of the 400-yard medley relay team that won in 3:42.99 and also included Moore, Smith and freshman Michael Roth (Columbia, MD).

 

Smith took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:01.87.

 

Freshman Kelsey Lake (Ijamsville, MD) notched a triple for the women, grabbing the 50-yard freestyle in 26.40 seconds and helping two winning relays.

 

Lake was on the 400-yard medley relay team that won in 4:18.04 and also consisted of Tyla Conicello (West Conshohocken, PA), fellow senior Elin Berlin (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Carlee Moir (Broomall, PA).  The 400-yard freestyle relay team finished in 3:56.22 and also included senior Emma Thrasher (Gettysburg, PA), Kathryn Gavlick (Ashley, PA) and fellow freshman Hayley Conover (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ).

 

Conicello grabbed the 100-yard freestyle in 57.96 and Berlin won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:37.82.

 

The “320 Challenge” is tied at 3-3.  The challenge, in its first season, pits the schools in a head-to-head matchup of their 19 shared sports.

Widener on Saturday visits Middle Atlantic Conference foe Albright at 1:00 pm in Reading, PA.
