(Game 1) /
(Game 2)
4/17/08 -- Sophomore
Kim Dougherty (Belle Mead, NJ) in game one notched her sixth straight win and junior
Stephanie Caulford (Vineland, NJ) in game two went 4-for-4 as Widener swept a doubleheader, 8-0 and 8-7, at Delaware Valley in Doylestown, PA.
Widener (24-10) in the first inning of game one benefited from four errors and needed just one hit to plate five runs. The only RBI in the frame came on Caulford's RBI single.
Caulford lined an RBI double in the second for a 6-0 lead and junior
Krista Cesarine (Ridley Park, PA) added a two-run double in the fourth for the final.
Dougherty (9-2) again was on her game, allowing just two hits over four scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Brittany Stockert (0-2) permitted five unearned runs and one hit without retiring a batter for the Aggies (8-16).
In game two, Cesarine and Caulford each had first-inning RBI to give the Pride a 2-0 lead. The margin grew to 6-0 in the second thanks to Cesarine's RBI single and a two-run single from junior
Rachel O'Leary (Coatesville, PA).
Caulford's two-run double in the sixth gave Widener what seemed to be an insurmountable 8-2 lead.
The Aggies made things interesting in the seventh, getting two-run singles from Bethany Pavlik and Nicole Dorney as well as an RBI single from Maureen Ferguson for an 8-7 contest. Freshman starter
Kelsey Shultz (Parker Ford, PA) re-entered the game with the winning runs on base, getting pinch-hitter Christine Yacco to strike out.
Schultz (6-2) allowed two runs and three hits over 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Caulford totaled three RBI in the game and five for the doubleheader, ending the day 6-for-7.
Jennifer Bummer (4-7) surrendered eight runs -- three earned -- and 11 hits over seven innings with five strikeouts for the Aggies.
The Pride are one victory shy of equaling the school record for most victories, achieved during the 1995 campaign (25-9).
Widener on Saturday visits Elizabethtown for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 pm.
