4/12/08 – Widener saw its four-game winning streak halted with an 11-10 Middle Atlantic Conference loss to Lycoming at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
With the game tied at eight after three quarters, Lycoming (8-4, 3-1 MAC) scored three straight goals to open an 11-8 lead with 4:47 remaining. Sam Foreman and Ed Williams tallied 44 seconds apart, the latter coming with 9:09 left, and Rick DeNenno also found the back of the net.
Senior
Chris Matthews (Drexel Hill, PA) scored twice 17 seconds apart in the final minute, but his team-best third goal of the game was not enough for Widener (6-6, 3-1).
Mike Doherty was the key for the Warriors, winning 18-of-24 faceoffs. That included 12-of-13 in the second half and all five in the fourth quarter.
Dan Cannon scored twice and added three assists for Lycoming, which went 4-for-7 in man-up situations. Williams and Jim Cusick netted a pair, Nate Walter dished three assists and Kyle Gilfoy totaled 15 saves.
Sophomore
Cory Malampy (Ridley, PA) and freshman
JJ Hoeffler (Cranford, NJ) scored twice and senior
Tim Collins (Yorktown Heights, NY) made nine saves. The Pride ended with a decided 48-29 shots edge, including 23-16 in the second half.
Widener is off until Saturday, when it visits King's for a 1:00 pm start in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
