Men's Lacrosse Pulls Away in Second Half For 10-6 Victory at Montclair State

3/29/08 -- Senior Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ) scored four goals for Widener, which took command in the second half for a 10-6 victory at Montclair State in Montclair, NJ.

With the game tied 5-5, senior Clint Quedenfeld (Chalfont, PA) scored with 8:11 left in the third quarter to give Widener (3-5) the lead. Stromko tallied 51 seconds later and Quedenfeld scored early in the fourth quarter for an 8-5 margin.

Bryan Klimchak found the back of the net for the Red Hawks (6-2) with 12:01 left for an 8-6 contest. But Stromko and freshman Andrew Janusz (Easton, PA) each scored in the last six minutes for the final.

Stromko's third hat trick of the year helped Widener to a 38-27 shots edge. Senior Chris Matthews (Drexel Hill, PA) had two goals and two assists with Quedenfeld dishing two assists.

Senior Tim Collins (Yorktown Heights, NY) made eight saves for the Pride, who outscored the Red Hawks 5-2 after the intermission.

A.J. Bachman scored three goals with John Schiavone adding two for Montclair State.

Widener on Tuesday opens Middle Atlantic Conference play at DeSales, beginning at 4:00 pm.
