NEWTOWN, Pa - Widener Women's Soccer goalkeeper Araba Abanyie was named the MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Week for her performance during the week of Sept. 14, 2026 to Sept. 20, 2026. 

The sophomore made nine saves and posted a clean sheet in a win against Wilkes on Senior Day. The nine saves were a season-high for Abanyie while Saturday's performance also marked the third shutout performance and improved her record to 3-1-1.

This marks the first time Abanyie's career that she has received a MAC weekly award. Abanyie has been a key cog to a Pride team that is an overall 4-2-1 on the season.

Up next, Widener will travel to Arcadia on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
