CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Soccer created several opportunities throughout the match but ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision to Immaculata University on Wednesday evening.
The Pride move to 3-2-1 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Avery Drumbore led the Pride with three shots on goal and scored Widener's lone goal in the 87th minute.
- Reilly Klein recorded a team-high five shots, including two on goal.
- Widener held a 18-8 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out attacking early, recording four shots and two corner kicks within the opening eight minutes. Klein and Drumbore each forced saves, with Drumbore doing so twice in a span of 1:33. Immaculata answered with chances of its own, as Lindsay Price made saves. The Mighty Macs broke through in the 17th minute when Gracie Repici found the back of the net to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead. The Pride continued to pressure, with Giovanna Chaves forcing another save in the 29th minute, but Immaculata carried the one-goal advantage into halftime.
- The Pride continued to generate chances in the second half, with Klein and Molly Sullivan each forcing saves and Widener earning several corner kicks during the opening 20 minutes. Immaculata doubled its lead in the 66th minute when Flora Hernandez scored off an assist from Lily McGee. Widener kept pushing, with Chaves and Klein creating additional opportunities before Drumbore returned to the attack and cut the deficit in half in the 87th minute, scoring off an assist from Mia Garofalo. The Pride continued to press in the final minutes, but Immaculata held on for the 2-1 victory.
