Nye Garnered MAC Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete

NEWTOWN, Pa. - Graduate student Gabby Nye was named MAC Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete for her accomplishments on the track and in the classroom, as announced by the conference office on Friday (Apr. 17).

To be eligible for this prestigious award, a candidate must have a 3.2 GPA or higher in the spring semester of their graduating year.

The award is based on 50% athletics and 50% academics, and there are four categories: GPA, academic awards, national athletic awards, and conference athletic awards. Each of those are ranked on a scale of 1-10 for a total number out of 40 possible points. Candidates must have at least 20 points to be considered.

Nye's legacy at Widener will live on as the graduate student dominated her career on the indoor track. During her years at Widener, Nye collected three second team All-American's, 12 USTFCCCA All-Region honors, and 11 MAC All-Conference selections. The distance specialist has earned back-to-back MAC Track Athlete of the Year awards and has secured her place in the Widener record books, currently holding four Widener records. This past season, the Shippensburg, Pa. native downed two MAC Championships records in the mile and 3000-meter. While in the classroom, Nye has held a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in biology/pre-physical therapy and spanish. For her successes in the classroom, Nye earned CSC Academic All-American and USTFCCCA Indoor All-Academic Team for the 2024-25 year. Throughout her career, Nye has earned two Academic All-MAC selections for the indoor season.

Nye will be honored at the MAC Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, May 5 at Messiah University.
