GREENWOOD, Ind. - Widener graduate student
Gabby Nye earns her second straight College Sports Communicators Academic All-American, as announced by the College Sports Communitators on Wednesday (July 15).
In order to be eligible for CSC Academic All-American, an individual must have a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet high athletic standards. Out of a select group of student-athletes, members of the CSC vote for Academic All-Americans. This year approximately 30,000 nominations were submitted with approximately 2,000 members selected to the team. Within women's cross country and track & field, a nominee must be in the top 50 individual performance at an NCAA regional competition for cross country and top 50 regional in an event for track & field.
Nye returns to the CSC Academic All-American squad as a first team honoree and is joined by 44 recipients across the three teams. Nye's accomplishments would earn her a team up from last year's second team selection after a historic season on the indoor and outdoor track. The indoor season displayed success on the national stage as the Shippensburg, Pa. native ran to two second team All-American awards at NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The mile time of 4:53.24 would place her 13th in the final rankings. While at conference championships, Nye earned MAC Women's Runner of the Year and two first team all-conference selections in the mile and 3000-meter while also breaking the championship record (9:54.29).
The outdoor season showed new heights for Nye as the distance specialist turned into a steeplechaser. Nye's first race would break Widener's school record and set her in place for a historic final outdoor season. NCAA Championships would mark the first time Nye earned a First Team All-American time (16:32.77) in the 5000-meter and (10:26.86) in the steeplechase. Before heading to NCAA Championships, Nye spent a weekend at Penn Relays in Philadelphia at Franklin Field, the first time ever in her career, and returned with a new school record (10:19.58). While at conference championships, she took another pair of all-conference awards in the 1500-meter and 5000-meter.
Nye's classroom excellence continued as she graduated with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy this past May and continued to hold her perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. For the classroom success, Nye earned 2025-26 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area, USTFCCCA Metro Region teams, MAC Senior Scholar Athlete in the indoor season, and the prestigious NCAA Elite Scholar Athlete during the outdoor campaign.
