3/27/2026 5:06:00 PM

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Athletics concludes its Women's History Month celebration by recognizing former softball standout Alexis Schengrund, whose impact in the circle ranks among the best in program history.

A member of the Class of 2017, Schengrund established herself as one of the premier pitchers in the Middle Atlantic Conference during her four-year career. She earned multiple All-MAC Commonwealth honors along with All-Region recognition, consistently performing at a high level against conference and non-conference competition.

Her junior season in 2016 stands as one of the most impressive in Widener softball history. Schengrund posted an 11-5 record with a 1.57 ERA while striking out 129 batters and issuing just 20 walks over 111.1 innings. She ranked among the conference leaders in ERA and strikeouts while holding opponents to a .185 batting average. Throughout the season, she delivered several standout performances, including a 16-strikeout effort in a complete-game victory and multiple double-digit strikeout outings.

Schengrund's success extended into her sophomore campaign in 2015, where she compiled a 14-3 record with a 1.62 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 112.1 innings. She led the conference in ERA and was among the top pitchers in wins and strikeouts, showcasing her ability to consistently control games in the circle. That season included a stretch of seven consecutive wins to open the year, along with multiple dominant outings, including an 14-strikeout performance.

As a freshman in 2014, Schengrund made an immediate impact, finishing with a 10-6 record, a 1.74 ERA, and 94 strikeouts. She quickly established herself as a reliable presence in the rotation, recording multiple complete-game victories and demonstrating the consistency that would define her career.

Across her career, Schengrund set the program's single-season strikeout record in back-to-back seasons, cementing her place in the Widener record books. Her ability to generate strikeouts, limit opposing hitters, and deliver in key moments made her one of the most dominant pitchers of her era.

As Widener Athletics wraps up its Women's History Month celebration, Alexis Schengrund's legacy stands as a testament to excellence, consistency, and the lasting impact of a true competitor in the circle.
