Pride Power Past Lions in 89–72 Victory

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener's offense stayed consistent from start to finish in an 89–72 win over Albright at home. 

The Pride improve to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play. 

BY THE NUMBERS  

  • Lindsay Kutz led with 25 points, adding 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals while playing all 40 minutes. 

  • Riley Stackhouse followed with 22 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. 

  • Giada Palmieri provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. 

  • Widener dominated the glass with a 43–30 rebounding advantage, including 20 offensive boards that led to 18 second-chance points. 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • Widener opened the game with baskets from Jayla Daniels and Avalynn Baer to take a 5–2 lead, then extended the margin as Baer, Kutz, and Stackhouse scored inside to make it 11–4 midway through the quarter. Albright briefly cut into the deficit, but Stackhouse answered with free throws and a bucket to push the lead to 15–11. Palmieri knocked down two free throws to stretch the advantage to 17–13, and Kutz continued to control the paint with another score to make it 19–13. Kimberly Casiello then connected from beyond the arc to give Widener its largest lead of the quarter at 22–13. Kutz capped the opening frame with a jumper in the final minute as the Pride carried a 24–14 advantage into the second quarter. 

  • Albright opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws to trim the deficit to 24–16, but Widener quickly responded as Breelynn Leary scored inside and then knocked down a three to extend the lead to 29–16. Palmieri followed with a layup to push the margin to 31–16 before the Lions answered with baskets of their own to cut it to 31–21. Palmieri kept the Pride in control with another score in the paint, making it 33–21, but Albright continued to chip away at the line, closing within 33–23. Kutz converted two free throws to rebuild a 35–23 advantage, though the Lions answered again to make it 35–25. Widener stayed composed down the stretch, with Baer and Liliana Metrick adding points at the line and Kutz scoring inside late, before burying a three in the final seconds as the Pride carried a 42–30 lead into halftime. 

  • Widener continued to control the pace in the third quarter, opening with a Kutz layup to make it 44–30 before Albright responded to cut the margin to 44–34. Kutz answered at the line to push the lead back to 46–34, and Stackhouse followed with a jumper to extend the advantage to 48–34. Leary added a bucket in the paint to make it 50–36, and Stackhouse sparked a run with a layup, a free throw, and a three-pointer that stretched the Pride's lead to 56–38. Albright briefly rallied with points in transition and at the line to close within 56–45, but Widener closed strong as Baer and Kutz scored inside and Palmieri converted two late free throws, sending the Pride into the fourth quarter ahead 65–51. 

  • The Pride opened the fourth quarter up 65–51, and after Albright scored twice at the line to make it 65–53, Stackhouse buried a three to push the lead to 68–53 before another triple made it 71–57. Albright answered with points in the paint and at the line to close within 73–62, but Widener steadied itself as Daniels hit two free throws and Kutz scored inside to extend the advantage to 77–64. Baer followed with a fast-break layup and Stackhouse added another basket to make it 81–65, and despite a brief Albright response, the Pride closed the game at the foul line and in transition, with Palmieri, Casiello, and Kutz combining late to seal the 89–72 home victory.
