READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball's comeback in the final minutes falls just shy against Albright on the road in the Bollman Center.
The 82-79 loss moves the Pride to 5-11 in the regular season and 2-3 in MAC play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- On the court, Kori Segich led with 18 points and six rebounds.
- Defensively, Jay-Nelly Reyes continued to accumulate steals with three.
- Off the bench, Matt Johnson and Jacob Ayree each held 16 points.
- The Pride shot 43.8% from the floor, 36.8% from beyond the arc, and saw 36 bench points and points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride's visit to Reading, Pa. started slow as Segich put Widener on the board at 17:22 with two free throws. Aryee saw his first points with a layup at 15:43 to head into a media timeout. Bright would put in a jumper while Aryee stole the rock for a fastbreak layup, drawing an And-1. An offensive groove began to emerge as Reyes saw a steal and a fastbreak layup. Johnson and Ethan Dodson would put points on the stat lines to bring the game within two. Segich drained a triple with 7:08 left in the half off a Dylan Schlatter ball. Segich and TJ Bryson followed suit to make the score 34-30 Lions with 3:21 left. Aryee hit two from the charity stripe to end the hald down 46-38.
- A long second half began with Emmet Kane earning a trip to the line. Bryson saw a steal and fastbreak layup to keep the game under double digits. Back-to-back Johnson triples would push the Pride to the 50 point mark with 12:24 remaining. First year Jayden Lawrence hit a jumper to begin to cut the deficit. Schlatter drained a triple to answer two from Namisse Musonge to bring the game within four. With 8:33 left, Segich put in a layup to make the score 66-64 Lions. Crunch time appeared as the Pride and Lions went punch for punch with points. Reyes' tied the game with 1:21 left on a layup and a final effort from Aryee would send the Pride home with an 82-79 loss.
