CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball's playoff contentions continue after a 83-74 win over Stevenson while welcoming back alumni.
The 83-74 win moves the Pride to 6-11 in the regular season and 3-3 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Myles Bright led the offense with 19 points.
- Kori Segich and Ethan Dodson joined the double-digit club with 14 and 11.
- On defense, Jay-Nelly Reyes continued to poke steals with two.
- The Pride shot 48.2% from the floor, saw 42 points in the paint, and 40 from the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead with points from Bright and Emmett Kane. The Mustangs settled in minutes later while Dodson's 14:54 layup fell. A Mustangs run would emerge as they took a 10-point lead with just over half to go. Segich would put in a free throw to break the run and then later hit a layup. Conner Schumacher saw his first points on a fastbreak layup to inch back. With 5:42 to go, Dylan Schlatter drained a triple while Musonge tied the game at 24 with 4:26 left. The Pride would start a run with points from Dodson, Jacob Aryee, Musonge, and Matt Johnson to take a seven-point lead with 1:30 remaining. The Pride would head to half up 38-31.
- With 20 minutes to go, Bright struck first with back-to-back layups. Segich found himself at the charity stripe to pick up one. Aryee and Dodson put points on the board while Schlatter continued to hit triples to make the score 52-47 Pride. The Mustangs would inch back before Johnson's free throw started a small run. TJ Bryson saw a steal and an assist on a Segich fastbreak layup to make the score 61-49. With 6:11, Schlatter drew an And-1 to keep the game's win in reach. A fast-paced full-court pressure game emerged in the final four minutes as both sides would go shot for shot. Free throw shooting from Bright became important as the senior would go 6-for-6. Reyes helped extend the lead with two of his own as the game ended 83-74.
