AUSTIN, Texas - Widener Women's Cross Country and Track & Field member Gabby Nye was garnered College Sports Communicators Academic All-American on Monday (July 15).

In order to be eligible for CSC Academic All-American, an individual must have a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative GPA and meet high athletic standards. Out of a select group of student-athletes, members of the CSC vote for Academic All-Americans. This year approximately 30,000 nominations were submitted with approximately 2,000 members selected to the team. Within women's cross country and track & field, a nominee must be in the top 50 individual performance at an NCAA regional competition for cross country and top 50 regional in an event for track & field.

Nye is joined by 45 other recipients across all three teams. This year the Shippensburg, Pa. native earned a spot on the second team following her successes on the course and track. During the cross country season, Nye would take first at MAC Championships with a 22:33.5 only to go on to drop more than 30 seconds at NCAA Metro Regionals where she took second with a 22:01.3. The cross country season concluded at NCAA Championships for the third time in her career where she ran a personal best 21:48.5 on Nov. 23 to place 42nd overall, the highest finish from a Widener student-athlete at a nationals.

The indoor track and field season continued to display her talents as Nye captured first in all three of her individual events. Her mile (5:01.16) would push her run at the Tufts Final Qualifier meet where she ran a personal best 4:54.99 to qualify for NCAA Championships. While at NCAA Championships, the distance specialist would place ninth in preliminaries with a 4:57.74 and end up placing 10th in finals later on in the meet with a 4:56.38 to be named a Second Team All-American for her second straight year. Moving to the outdoor season did not slow as she transitioned to the 5k at conference championships where she clocked a 17:56.78 to take first. A couple weeks later a 16:34.06 would earn her a spot at NCAA Championships in the 5k where she took 12th in a 16:50.57. Her time would earn her another Second Team All-American honor.

Nye's classroom activities reflect her hard work as she holds a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in biology/pre-physical therapy and spanish. Outside the classroom, she is heavily involved in the Chester Community Clinic, Widener's Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Mission of Mercy in PA, and a Widener University tutor.

For her accomplishments in the classroom and in sport, Nye was named MAC Senior Scholar Athlete for Cross Country, named to the 2024-25 PhillySIDA Academic All-Area teams, named to the Academic All-MAC teams, and to the USTFCCCA Metro Region teams.
