NEWTOWN, Pa. - Senior
Maria Muzzarelli has been named MAC Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete, as announced by the conference.
To be eligible for this prestigious award, a candidate must have a 3.2 GPA or higher in the spring semester of their graduating year.
The award is based on 50% athletics and 50% academics, and there are four categories: GPA, academic awards, national athletic awards, and conference athletic awards. Each of those are ranked on a scale of 1-10 for a total number out of 40 possible points. Candidates must have at least 20 points to be considered.
While Muzzarelli was dominant during the indoor season, she was just at good when the outdoor season came around. During her four years, Muzzarelli collected three first team all-conference awards in the 100m and in the 4x100 relay. She also added on two All-MAC second team honors in the 200 meter and two All-MAC third team honors in the 100 meter. During the 2023 season, Muzzarelli was named to the USTFCCCA All- Region team. In the classroom, she has been just as dominant, earning MAC Academic honor roll four times and also being named to the 2024 Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area team.
