Women's Basketball Secures #2 Seed on Senior Day

CHESTER, Pa. - Women's basketball wins a huge game at home, taking a close 70-63 victory over Albright to secure the MAC #2 seed.

The Pride improve to 16-8 on the season and 9-4 in conference play.

  • Mia Robbins led the way for Widener with a game-high 20 points, shooting an impressive 12-for-13 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed 10 rebounds, recording a double-double.

  • Lindsay Kutz had a dominant presence on the boards, securing 14 rebounds, while also contributing 11 points, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 34 minutes of play.

  • Mary McFillin was a key contributor with 10 points, hitting three three-pointers (3-for-10) and adding 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks in 39 minutes.

  • Grace Egli was active defensively, securing 3 steals, along with 4 points and 2 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Widener got off to a slow start, struggling to find offensive rhythm as Albright jumped out to an early lead. Despite some early defensive stops, the Pride managed just 10 points in the opening period, with Mia Robbins and Lindsay Kutz battling in the paint to keep the team within striking distance.

  •  Widener found its groove offensively, outscoring Albright 21-17 in the period to cut into the deficit. Mary McFillin sparked the offense with a couple of three-pointers, while Kaitlyn Kearney's aggressive play earned her multiple trips to the free-throw line. Robbins began to impose her will inside, helping Widener go into halftime with momentum.

  •  The Pride continued their push, using strong defense and rebounding to control the pace. Lindsay Kutz dominated the boards, finishing with 14 rebounds, while Robbins remained a force inside. Widener's defensive pressure ramped up, leading to several key turnovers that helped generate easy points. A three-pointer from McFillin gave the Pride their first lead of the game, but Albright responded late in the quarter to keep it close.

  • Widener saved its best for last, closing the game on a 22-point final period to secure the victory. Robbins took over down the stretch, getting to the free-throw line repeatedly and converting 12-of-13 free throws. Kutz and Kearney made key defensive plays, while Egli and Baer contributed off the bench. A strong defensive stand in the final minutes sealed the win, as Widener pulled away for a 70-63 victory.
