CHESTER, Pa. - Women's Basketball has their eyes locked on the #2 seed after a big 72-55 home win over the Spartans of York.Â
The Pride improve to 16-8 with the season winding down and 9-4 in the MAC, vaulting York #2 in the conference.Â

Widener started the game with a strong first quarter, setting the tone early with aggressive defense and efficient scoring. Lindsay Kutz controlled the pace, grabbing rebounds and distributing assists, while Jayla Daniels provided an instant spark off the bench, hitting back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead. The Pride's defense was relentless, forcing seven first-quarter turnovers, which led to easy transition baskets. By the end of the quarter, Widener held a commanding 22-11 advantage, keeping York (PA) on the back foot.Â

In the second quarter, York made a push to get back into the game, briefly cutting into the lead with a small scoring run. However, Mia Robbins responded with crucial baskets in the paint to maintain the momentum for Widener. Kaitlyn Kearney and Riley Stackhouse also contributed with key buckets, helping to fend off York's comeback attempt. On the defensive end, Mary McFillin was a standout, recording two blocks to stifle York's offensive efforts. Despite being outscored 21-18 in the quarter, Widener still carried a 40-32 lead into halftime.Â

Coming out of the break, Widener's defense took over in the third quarter, holding York to just nine points. McFillin and Daniels continued to create havoc in the passing lanes, forcing turnovers that led to transition scores. Robbins dominated inside, scoring on back-to-back possessions to further cushion Widener's lead. The defensive pressure and offensive execution allowed Widener to take a 54-41 lead into the final quarter, putting them firmly in control.Â

York attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, knocking down a couple of early three-pointers to spark some momentum. However, Robbins and Kutz stepped up with clutch plays to silence the comeback attempt. Widener's bench played a critical role down the stretch, with Daniels and Kimberly Casiello contributing timely baskets to keep the offense flowing. The Pride outscored York 18-14 in the final frame, sealing an impressive 72-55 victory.Â
