CHESTER, Pa. – A strong fourth quarter performance gave Widener Women's Basketball a season sweep over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
The Pride improve to 15-8 on the season and 8-4 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mia Robbins once again led the way for Widener with an impressive 21 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and making 9-of-13 free throws. She also grabbed 7 rebounds, had 2 steals, and added a block.
- Kaitlyn Kearney had her best game of the season, scoring 18 points on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting, including 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. She also chipped in with 3 rebounds and a steal.
- Giada Palmieri gave the team good minutes off the bench, contributing 8 points in just 9 minutes while pulling down 4 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride got things going early, jumping out to an early lead with a balanced offensive attack. Kearney and Robbins made key baskets, and the defense forced several turnovers. Widener took a 16-11 lead into the second quarter.
- Scoring slowed down for both teams in a defensive battle. Alvernia chipped away at the lead, outscoring Widener 13-9 in the frame, bringing the game to a tight 25-24 at halftime.
- Widener responded with a 19-point third quarter, fueled by strong performances from Robbins and Kearney. A key three-pointer from Kearney and clutch free throws helped Widener create some separation, taking a 44-38 lead into the final quarter.
- Widener sealed the game with a dominant 20-point fourth quarter. Robbins and Palmieri made key plays down the stretch, and the defense held Alvernia to just 11 points in the frame. Widener secured a 64-49 victory, improving their record to 15-8 (8-4 MAC).
