Angelucci Come Back 1000 Race Helps Secure Women’s Swimming Win Over Arcadia

Swimming honors 16 seniors

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Swimming dominates Arcadia on senior day as Jenna Angelucci captures a big swim in the first individual event.
 
The 162-98 win moves the Pride to 5-4 in the regular season and a 5-1 MAC record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Pride open strong with a first place in the 200-yard medley relay. The quad of Sophia Sapnas, Hailey Webster, Sally Meyers, and Megan Shallow captured a 1:57.08 to out touch the Knights by 0.69.
 
The 1000-yard freestyle was led by Lauren Kalsbeek who took first with a 11:34.00. A late push from Angelucci would help spring past the Knights for second in a 11:51.61.
 
Shallow took first in a 1-3 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Shallow would clock a 2:03.07 to win by a second while Olivia Giambalvo out touched for third in a 2:06.43.
 
Sapnas led a 2-3-4 finish in the 100-yard backstroke where she clocked in a 1:06.33. Caroline Anderson finished third with a 1:06.38 while Tyla Block finished in a 1:09.13
 
A 1-2-3-4 race scored big points for the Pride in the 100-yard breaststroke. Webster took first with a 1:14.98, Olivia Barclay took second with a 1:16.26, Emily Thompson took third with a 1:18.00 and Taylor Sholl would touch with a 1:22.34.
 
Meyers took her first individual win in the 200-yard butterfly where she clocked in a 2:18.77 to win by nearly 10 seconds. Kaitlyn Fahy took third with a 2:28.01.
 
The women's 100-yard freestyle would be split by Shallow who snuck into second with a 56.75.
 
Sapnas led a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:22.32. Angelucci finished securely in second with a 2:23.38, beating the Knights by four seconds.
 
The 200-yard breaststroke would feature Barclay in second with a 2:45.13, Webster in third with a 2:50.38, Thompson with a 2:53.17, and Anna Durboraw with a 2:54.84.
 
In the 500-yard freestyle, Kalsbeek secured her second individual of the weekend with a 5:33.81. Angelucci would follow with a 5:50.24.
 
Meyers took her second win in the 100-yard butterfly as she clocked in a two second win with a 1:02.06.
 
Kalsbeek's last individual bowed a 2:23.17 in the 200-yard individual medley. She would lead Tyla Block who finished third with a 2:29.21.
 
The final race of the afternoon would show a second in the 200-yard freestyle relay where Shallow, Meyers, Olivia Downs, and Kalsbeek just missed out on a first with a 1:44.64.
