CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Swimming captures 11-of-14 wins in a dominating win over Arcadia on senior day.
The 180-81 win moves the Pride to 9-0 and 6-0 in MAC meets for an undefeated conference record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
To open the meet the quad of
Matthew Niro,
Dan Jackson,
Alex Chan, and
Shane Douthit took home first in the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:38. 17.
Jason Mongiovi led a 2-3-4 charge in the 1000-yard freestyle. Mongiovi touched second in a 10:46.76 to lead
Patrick Rankin who clocked just behind with a 10:46.99.
Adam Bailey touched fourth with a 10:49.73.
The Pride extended their lead in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1-2 finish led by
Sean Lehan who registered a 1:48.85, winning by four seconds. Douthit took second with a 1:52.07.
A 2-3 finish in the 100-yard backstroke would be led with Niro and
Patrick Rauch. Niro hit the wall in a 55.18 while Rauch clocked his own 55.92 just behind.
Jackson took home first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 59.85 to win by half a second over the Knights.
Just before the 50-yard freestyle, Lehan captured his second win with a 2:04.59, out touching the Knights for a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Ranking took third with a 2:13.54.
A big swing in the 50-yard freestyle was led with a first place from
Alex Chan (22.36) and a second from
Kyle Cantrell (22.57).
Out of the first break and some equipment issues,
Joshua Cunningham took first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 51.82 which led Chan who touched with a 51.95.
A good split in the 200-yard backstroke would feature the two Patricks. Rauch touched first with a 2:01.28 and Rankin followed with a 2:07.77.
Lehan's meet continued in the 500-yard freestyle as he would touch first with a 4:50.78 for a new season best. Lehan captured first by over 15 seconds.
A 1-2-3 sealed the deal in the 100-yard butterfly as Niro,
Zach Delgado, and Douthit took the first three spots. Niro clocked a 53.48 while Degado hit in a 55.96. Douthit took third by 0.02 seconds over the Knights for third.
The Pride continued to roll with a 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley with Mongiovi leading the three with a 2:03.77.
Seth Phillips touched in a 2:04.96 and Chan hit third with a 2:06.08.
The final race of the afternoon was wrapped with a first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The senior quad of Cantrell, Cunningham, Jackson, and Douthit would hit in a 1:29.14.
