RADNOR, Pa. – Casey and Widener Football roll to their first win against Eastern on a sunny afternoon on the road.
The Pride move to 1-1 in the regular season and 1-0 in MAC play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jeff Chaplin threw 19-of-34 passes for 188 total yards and a touchdown.
- On the ground, Bryce Casey rushed for 69 yards and picked up two touchdowns.
- Over the air, Malachi Holmes led with 97 yards on four receptions for a long of 40 yards.
- Dan Ficca controlled the defense with eight total tackles.
- Ryan Pattison converts three PATs and two field goals with a new season long.
- The Pride took control of the offense with 381 total yards to the Eagles 256.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride opened the afternoon with a coin toss win which would lead to a second half deferral. On the Eagles opening drive the Pride defense would force a quick three and out with tackles from Ficca and Nate Brown. Halfway through the first quarter, the Pride would have a field goal blocked. One drive later, Chaplin would air a seven-yard ball out to Kareem McCoy to give the Pride the first points of the game.
- At 11:06 of the second, the Pride would begin a long drive to chew clock. A deep ball to Isaac Hostetter would be complete for a 36-yard gain. Hostetter would be targeted again and would move the ball to the EAS 10. The Pride would end the drive with a Ryan Pattison 22-yard field goal to make the lead 10. Heading into halftime with a 10-0 lead.
- Out of halftime the Pride offense was progressing the ball until a pick-six would give the Eagles their first score. The Pride offense didn't let momentum swing as the next drive would result in a touchdown. A 1stand 10 play would result in a Holmes 40-yard catch and run to the EAS 17. Casey would punch ahead a few yards at a time and would eventually punch in a one-yard rush to make the score 17-6.
- Back and forth series from both sides would result in punts to open the final 15 minutes of play. Jacob Kopelman and Boston Blake would pick up tackles in the defensive series to lead into an Alexander Cintron 26-yard return to set up the Pride offense deep in Eagles territory. A no-huddle shotgun direct snap to Casey would end in a Pride touchdown. Pattison would tack on the point after to make the score 24-6. Two series later, Pattison continued his points with a season long 42-yard field goal to end the game with a final score of 27-13 in favor of the Pride.
