COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Widener Men's Track and Field sets new 2023-24 season marks at Ursinus Track and Field Festival in season preparations.
FRIDAY
Alex Stempin opened the meet for the Pride in the long jump where he took first overall with a 6.29-meter mark. Stempin's mark would set the tone for the season.
Jacob Grossman also saw competition with a 5.85-meter mark.
David Waters threw a 13.46-meter throw in the shot put. Waters took second overall.
In the 1500-meter run,
Gavin Kelly led the pack with a 4:17.49.
Michael Carolan would finish four spots back with a 4:21.65 while
Ethan Ng finished in a 4:31.90.
SATURDAY
The Pride's hammer throw dominance continued as
Conrad Howell led the Pride to a 1-4-5 finish. Howell marked a 52.26-meter throw to move into ninth in the Widener All-Time Top 10 list.
John Kodack and Waters followed as Kodack threw a 43.15-meter throw. Waters marked a 41.92-meter throw.
Aidan Wilson saw a new personal best in the pole vault as he jumped a 3.80-meter height.
Tristen Silverstein went on to qualify for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with a prelims time of 16.64. In finals, he would place second with a 19.04.
In the 100-meter dash,
Jacob Cappiello clocked an 11.76 to win a tie-breaker placement with Haverford's Hill.
Luke Spera saw a time of 11.93 with a top 20 finish.
The 400-meter hurdles were led by
Jonathan David who ran a 58.43.
Ben Miller (1:01.02), Silverstein (1:03.84). and
Derek Rudd (1:04.26) also registered times.
The men's 800-meter run featured
Auden Fitz,
James Plunkett, and Stempin. Fitz would lead the three with a 2:12.82. Plunkett's second race of the season would end in a 2:14.20 while Stempin set his standard for the season with a 2:19.60.
