PHILADELPHIA & BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Penn Relays display success for Widener Men's Track and Field with top finishes from McGraw and the 4x400 relay team. Regional marks were also set at Covert Classic by the 4x100 relay team.
PENN RELAYS
Friday saw action from five athletes. In the triple jump, first year
Matayo McGraw would mark a 14.48-meter jump in his first three to qualify him for the finals. McGraw placed sixth overall and would just miss his personal best.
Friday evening, the quad of
Samuel Knowles,
Josh Schreiner,
Jonathan David, and
Brion McNear ran a 3:21.48 in the 4x400 pop haddleton. Knowles opened with quick 400 to distance himself from the field. The team would hold off Stevenson for second.
LEHIGH'S COVERT CLASSIC
Alex Stempin led the Pride in the 100-meter dash with an 11.51 and a conference standard.
Luke Spera and
Edward Abel followed with an 11.71 and 12.77 respectively.
In the 200-meter dash,
Derek Rudd led a back-to-back-to-back finish with
Ben Miller and Spera. Rudd ran a 24.36 while Miller (24.40) and Spera (24.59) crossed just behind.
Miller continued to see action in the 400-meter where he ran a 52.99.
Gavin Kelly and
Jason DiMarco took back-to-back finishes in the 800-mter run. Kelly clocked in a 2:05.46 while DiMarco finished in a 2:05.65.
The Carolan's put on a show in the 1500-meter run. Patrick Carolan led with a 4:06.89 and brother
Michael Carolan finished in a 4:10.95. Both ran fast enough for a conference standard next to their names.
The quad McNear, Schreiner, McGraw, and Knowles ran a 4x100-meter relay to earn a regional time standard with a 43.18.
Stepin saw a conference mark in the long jump where he took a 5.99-meter jump out of his three.
In the hammer throw,
John Kodack marked a 46.07-meter throw in his second out of three. Kodack earned a conference standard an a new personal best.
