McGraw and Knowles of Men’s Track and Field Nab ALL-AMERICAN Marks at NCAA Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Matayo McGraw earns All-American at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship as only first year competitor in the triple jump.

"Leaving this year's NCAA Championship with two All-Americans in a year of historic performances can only be seen as a gift," Head Men's Track and Field Coach Vince Touey exclaimed. "Both Matayo and Sam serve as exemplary role models who have added great value to the Widener community."

After qualifying for the 400-meter finals, Samuel Knowles mentioned that he's "very blessed to have my coaches and teammates supporting me through every step of the journey." This is Knowles second time at indoor nationals and "being able to compete at nationals and accomplish everything so far is truly a blessing." Knowles "looks forward to the many opportunities that may come in the future."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matayo McGraw entered this year's NCAA Indoor Championships seeded fourth with a 14.79-meter mark. McGraw finished eighth with his best mark of his six jumps being 14.63-meters. McGraw would end his outdoor season as the only first year in the event to earn All-American and seventh athlete in Widener history to compete in the triple jump. 
  • Samuel Knowles looked to continue his sprint dominance in the 400-meter dash. Knowles came in seeded 17th with a 47.91. In the preliminaries on Friday afternoon, Knowles raced to a sixth-place finish in a 48.03 to qualify for finals. In his heat he would place fourth with all three ahead qualifying. In finals, Knowles would place eighth to add All-American to his accolades. Knowles finished in a 48.02 which would be a new season best.

McGraw and Knowles return to Chester, Pa. to celebrate their accomplishments and transition into the outdoor season set to begin shortly.
