CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Men's Volleyball takes a tough loss at home to national #17 Misericordia on Senior Night.Â
The Pride drop to 8-10 on the season and fall to 1-4 in conference play.Â

Michael Martino had a strong game hitting. He finished with seven kills, a service ace, an assist, and a block assist.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ

The first set started with the Pride down 8-1. The Pride would battle back, highlighted by a 3-0 run to push the lead to 7-13. A 4-0 Pride run later in the set would close the gap, but a 5-1 Cougar run would put the score at 14-21 late in the set. Two Christian Wannamaker kills would put the game to 15-23, but a Pride error would put them down 15-24. Another Pride error would have the first set end with a 17-25 Widener loss.Â

The Pride would be the strong performers early in the second set, starting up 3-1. A 4-1 Cougar run would have them take the lead, but an error would tie the game at 5. The teams would continue battling, with neither team taking a lead larger than two, until a 5-0 Cougar run would put the Pride down 8-11. A 3-0 Pride run with more Martino kills would tie the set again at 11. The teams again would trade leads, but a 5-1 Cougar run would again put the Pride in a deficit at 15-19. The Cougars would score three straight to put them up 18-23, and a Pride error would have the Pride in danger of losing the second set down 19-24. The Pride would score two points to cut it close, but a Cougar kill would sink the Pride 21-25 in the second set.Â

The Cougars would have the upper hand to start the third set, leading the game 1-4 early. A 3-0 Pride run led by an Ethan Cox assist and block would tie the game at 4, but a 7-0 Cougar run would put the Pride down 4-11. A 6-0 Pride run highlighted by a Christian Wannamaker ace would close the game at 11-14, and the teams would trade scores from there. Back-to-back Misericordia kills would have the Pride down 17-24, and another Cougar kills would finish the set and match as the Pride would fall 18-25.Â

The Pride will hit the road as they travel to Mechanicsburg, Pa for a conference matchup against Messiah, a team receiving national votes. First serve is Saturday, March 23 at 1pm.Â
