Men's Track and Field Places Second in Indoor MAC Indoor Championships

The Team Earned 91 Points and Some Major Personal Awards

READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Track and Field finishes second in the MAC Championship meet as they earn 91 points, more than ten points clear of the third place team.
 
Day 1 – Friday (24 Total Points | 4th Place)
  • Earning points for the Pride and taking first overall in the 5000-meter run was Tom Flear. Flear would continue his distance dominance for the Pride with a 15:05.99 final time, winning by four seconds. In his race he would average 36 seconds per 200.
  • The relay team of Matayo McGraw, Brion McNear, Ben Miller, and Sam Knowles took gold in the 4x200-meter relay. The four would take first and out run Lebanon Valley with a final time of 1:31.61 to the Fly Dutchmen's 1:31.91. 
  • In the 4000-meter distance medley relay, Gavin Kelly, Derek Rudd, Josh Schreiner, and Joe Nescio placed fifth overall and picked up four points for the team standings. The quad clocked a 10:37.54. 
  • Over on the field side, McGraw saw action in the long jump where he would mark a 6.21-meter jump, setting a new personal best.
  • Conrad Howell took to the circle in the weight throw as he would place 11th overall with a 14.17-meter throw. David Waters would place three behind Howell with a 13.62-meter throw. 
  • With the heptathlon still in competition, Alex Stempin ended the day in fifth overall with three events to compete. In the 60-meter dash, he would run a 7.33. On the field side, he would mark a 6.01-meter jump in the long jump, a 8.24-meter throw in the shot put, and a 1.71-meter height in the high jump. Stempin took third in the 60, long jump, and high jump and 10th in the shot put.

 
DAY 2 – Saturday (91 Total Points | 2nd Place)
  • Samuel Knowles' 22.22 finish in the 200-meter dash would place second in the meet and earn points. He would also place first in the 400-meter with a time of 49.04.
  • Brion McNear and Josh Schreiner also score for the team as they place sixth and seventh with times of 51.35 and 51.60 respectively.
  • Thomas Flear would finish second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:48:1. Joe Nescio would place fifth with a time of 8:51:41
  • The Pride's 4x400 relay team of Brion McNear, Josh Schreiner, Ben Miller, and Samuel Knowles finished first with a time of 3:26:87, just beating Lebanon Valley's time of 3:27:10.
  • Matayo McGraw's 1.92-meter high jump would see him finish atop the podium, with a first place finish. He would also finish first in the triple jump after going for a mark of 14.42 meters.
  • At the end of day seven, Alex Stempin finished seventh in the Heptathlon with 3636 points.

Samuel Knowles drew the honors of Men's Track athlete of the year, while Matteo McGraw was named Field Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Widener returns to Chester, Pa. for their final preparations for the AARTFC Championships held in Nazareth, N.Y. This year's championship is set for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 1-2.
