Women's Swimming Fall to Shorewomen in Chestertown

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Widener Women's Swimming take second places in a tough battle against Washington College on Saturday (Dec. 7) afternoon.
 
The 157-107 loss moves the Pride to 3-4 in the regular season and a 3-1 record in the MAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Pride opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The quad of Sophia Sapnas, Lauren Kalsbeek, Sally Meyers, and Megan Shallow put up a 1:57.29.
 
Olivia Giambalvo took second in the 1000-yard freestyle to lead a 2-3-4. Giambalvo led with an 11:57.34 as Anna Durboraw (12:43.73) and Kaitlyn Beden (12:45.07) took the final spots.
 
The 100-yard backstroke was led by Shallow who clocked in a 1:04.97 for a new season best. Sapnas finished close behind with a 1:05.18.
 
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Olivia Barclay took second with a 1:15.11 to just miss first by 0.11.
 
Kaitlyn Fahy took second with a 2:30.19 while first year Jillian Smith took third with a 2:30.69 for a new personal best.
 
Caroline Anderson snuck into third with a 26.92 while Olivia Downs took fourth with a 27.02.
 
Out of the first break, Meyers took second by 0.30 with a 56.13 to lead a 2-3-4 finish. Shallow took third just 0.10 seconds behind Meyers and Anderson clocked in a 59.22.
 
Another 2-3-4 finish in the 200-yard backstroke would help put points up. Jenna Angelucci led with a 2:25.90 over Smith (2:29.17) and Anna Sisca (2:35.23).
 
Olivia Barclay took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:38.77 to win by seconds.
 
Kalsbeek took second with a 5:40.51 to split the Shorewomen up.
 
In the 100-yard butterfly, Meyers snuck into second with a 1:02.29 to comfortably fit.
 
The last individual event would show another 2-3-4 finish for the Pride. This time Barclay (2:28.91) led Tyla Block (2:29.61) and Durboraw (2:36.35).
 
Kalsbeek, Downs, Meyers, and Shallow took second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1:45.27 to end the meet.
 
UP NEXT
Widener takes a break from the pool until after the new year and will return on Saturday, Jan. 11 for a 3 p.m. meet against Lebanon Valley in Annville, Pa.
