MAIMI SHORES, Fla. – A high scoring second half for Widener Men's Basketball concludes 2024 with a three point loss to Carroll.
The 78-75 loss moves the Pride to 3-8 for the remainder of the year.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Matt Daulerio led the Pride with 24 points and sees a new season high five blocks and two steals.
- Kori Segich (13) and Kevin Schenk (11) would put up double digits.
- The Pride defense would feature six block and six rebounds.
- The offense shot 52.7% from the floor, 38.5% from beyond the arc, and accumulated 34 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride opened six back to back triples from Daulerio and Myles Bright. Luke Mazur added one of his own at the 17:21 mark. Daulerio would hit a good jumper to make the score 17-12 before he saw his first block at 11:18. The Pride offense hit a lull to let the Pioneers take a 10 point lead. Segich drained a triple at 2:51 minute mark to cut the deficit to 11. The final points of the half were seen off charity stripe shots from Daulerio and a good Steven Hamilton triple to end down 36-30.
- Schenk opened the second half, scoring first off a good layup. An and 1 play from Schenk drew the game back to three points two minutes in. Bright hit back-to-back layups while Schenk put in another to again cut the score to three. Mazur pushed the score to 50 on a good layup as the game was now two. Ethan Dodson's fastbreak layup and triple from Daulerio made it a one point battle with 8:11 left in the game. Schenk and Daulerio helped the lead change with good blocks allowing a fastbreak dunk to take the lead. Hamilton sunk a triple to battle back as the Pioneers took the lead back. A late push wouldn't be enough as Hamilton ended the game with a triple and a 78-75 loss.
