Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Stumbles to Start the Season Against Ohio Wesleyan

Slow Offensive Start for the Pride Create Insurmountable Lead

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Women's Basketball opens in heartbreaking fashion, falling 35-66 to Ohio Wesleyan.

The Pride start the season 0-1 and remain 0-0 in conference.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Kaitlyn Kearney would lead the team with 9 points, shooting 50/50/90 splits.

  • Lindsay Kutz had an impressive game, totaling a team-best eight rebounds and three assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter would be poorly for the Pride, as Kearney's two free throws and Mia Robbins' one would be the only three points for the Pride. In contrast, the Battling Bishops would score 20 in the period, including an 0-11 run, as the Pride would go down 3-20 in the first quarter.

  • Widener would see their first non-free throw score from Avalynn Baer's layup three minutes into the second quarter. Lindsay Kutz would get things going with back-to-back jumpers, but Ohio Wesleyan would score six straight as the Pride would trail 13-38 heading into halftime.

  • The third quarter would still not be good for the Pride, as they suffered a ten-score run and would only put up six points in the period. Familiar faces Mary McFillin and Mia Robbins would get their first baskets of the night in the quarter, but the Pride would trail 19-59.

  • The fourth quarter would be Widener's best as they beat Ohio Wesleyan in this period 16-7. Kearney and Jayla Daniels would do the heavy lifting offensively, scoring seven and five points respectively, and Kaitlin Meenan's layup would put her on the board for the day. The solid fourth quarter would not be enough to overcome the deficit however, and the Pride would fall 35-66.

UP NEXT

The Pride will finish the Elizabethtown Tournament with a matchup tomorrow against Marymount (VA). Tip off is Saturday, November 9th at 1pm.
