Huge Wins for Rauch Clutch Men’s Swimming Undefeated Season

Rauch wins four; Pride move to 5-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A thrilling end to Widener Men's Swimming extends their win streak to five against Ursinus.
 
The Pride take a split final relay to win 132-130 and move to 5-0 in the regular season while remaining 3-0 in conference.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Pat Rauch set the tone for the meet with a 55.94 lead off split in the 400-yard medley relay that would take first in a 3:35.92. Rauch, Alex Chan, Matthew Niro, and Dan Jackson would win by half a second.
 
First year Sean Lehan took second in the 1000-yard freestyle where he would average 31 seconds per 50 and stop the clock in a 10:25.21.
 
Jackson picked up his first win of the afternoon in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:46.10 while Seth Phillips snuck into third with a 1:50.95.
 
Rauch earned his second first place in the 100-yard backstroke as he out touched the Ursinus swimmer with his 55.98.
 
Alex Chan picked up a first in the 200-yard butterfly where he dominated the race with a 1:57.10. Out of the break, Chan took second in the 100-yard freestyle as he hit the wall in a 48.57.
 
Pat squared found a 1-2 finish for big Pride points in the 200-yard backstroke. Rauch took first in a 2:03.12 while Pat Rankin took second by a second with a 2:07.31.
 
Jackon's second individual would be another first with a 2:13.85 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Michael Machristie took third, just missing out on second with a 2:17.92.
 
Lehan's distance swimming led in the 500-yard freestyle taking second in a 4:58.26.
 
Niro's split in the 100-yard butterfly helped send points to the Pride as he clocked in a 54.04.
 
The men's 200-yard individual medley was a crucial event for the Pride as Jackson (2:01.86), Phillips (2:03.51), and Rankin (2:07.58) took 2-3-5 to split points.
 
A final 200-yard freestyle relay race came down to it all, a split relay gave the Pride a 2-3 finish to win by two points. Chan, Cantrell, Delgado, and Rauch took the second in a 1:28.96 while Shane Douthit, Niro, Bryce Garber, and Joshua Cunningham took the third in a 1:30.43.

Widener return to the Schwartz Athletic Center to host FDU-Florham in the last dual meet before the midseason invitational. First splash is set for Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
