Pride Unable to Overcome Late Swarthmore Surge in Loss

Swarthmore 10-0 Run in the Fourth Causes Pride Defeat

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Women's Basketball suffered its second loss of the season to the Swarthmore College Garnet.

The Pride fall to 1-2 and remain 0-0 in the conference. 


BY THE NUMBERS 
  • Riley Stackhouse would lead the team with 17 points, going 5-9 from the field, 4-7 from three, and 3-3 from the line.
  • Mia Robbins was the second leading scorer for The Pride with 10 points, going 4-14 from the field. 


HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • In the first quarter, The Garnets jumped out to a 9-3 lead. Kaitlyn Kearney would bring the score to within three as she was fouled behind the three-point line and hit all three of her free throws. Each team would hit one more shot to bring the score to 11-8 with The Garnet leading. Before the buzzer could sound, Swarthmore hit a three with two seconds left on the clock to extend their lead to six.
  • The second quarter started with The Pride getting two quicks buckets from Lindsay Kutz and Mary McFillin, bringing the deficit down to two. The teams then proceeded to trade shots before The Garnet went on a 5-0 run to bring the score to 23-15. Widener would answer back with a 7-0 run to bring the game back within one. Riley Stackhouse came in clutch with a three-point shot to put The Pride ahead. The half would end with the score all tied up at 26.
  • After the half, Riley Stackhouse hit another three to put Widener back ahead. She would then hit another three to extend The Pride's leas to six. Similarly to the previous two quarters, the teams would then trade blows going shot for shot until the third frame came to an end with Widener maintaining a 40-38 lead.
  • The game would become tied early in the fourth quarter at 44 before The Garnet went on a 10-0 giving them a 54-44 lead. Mia Robbins then took control, scoring the next six points for The Pride, bringing the game within four. With little time remaining, The Garnet would score the next five points increasing their lead to nine and icing the game. The game would end with a 59-53 Swarthmore victory.


UP NEXT 
The Pride will return home to the Schwartz Athletic Center to face King's College on Wednesday, November 20th. Game time is set for 6:00pm.
