CHESTER, Pa. – Even in a game where Widener women's basketball made a late comeback, the Pride fell to the Albright College Lions 67-66.
The Pride are 13-4 in the regular season. They are 3-3 in MAC play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mia Robbins had a team-high 22 points. Jordan D'Ambrosio was close behind with 21.
- Lindsay Kutz nearly had a double-double. She had nine points and 12 boards.
- Widener had six blocks and six steals on defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
- Kutz made the first bucket of the game on a jumper. The scoring was slow for both sides early on, as they were turning the ball over. With 4:30 left in the quarter, Albright had a 9-3 lead. It was the middle of a 16-1 run by the visitors until a Robbins' free throw broke the streak. Widener cut into the deficit at the end of the first, but Albright led 18-10.
- The Pride and Lions exchanged buckets to open the second quarter. Widener's attempts at shortening the deficit were countered with an Albright three and a layup. The two sides continued to answer each other's shots as Widener hovered around a five-point disadvantage. Even though Giada Palmieri made a layup with 14 seconds left, Albright had a 34-29 lead at the half.
- Out of the locker room, Mary McFillin began Widener's scoring with a triple. The Lions' attack put them back up seven, despite a few D'Ambrosio free throws. With the visitors leading by double digits, multiple D'Ambrosio layups and two Robbins' free throws cut the deficit to 51-47 through three.
- Robbins added to her scoring total at the start of the fourth quarter. She would score Widener's first 12 points of the quarter, which was part of a 14-0 run by herself with the free throws at the end of the third. The Pride and Lions went back-and-forth trading a one or two-point lead. With 1:56 to go, an Albright triple made the score 64-59. D'Ambrosio would take over the scoring for the Pride, as she hit the final seven points. D'Ambrosio would tie the game on a layup with 10 seconds left, forcing a quick Albright timeout. However, a costly Widener foul with five seconds remaining put the Lions up one point after going one of two at the charity stripe. The Pride fell 67-66.
