Men’s Swimming Flex their Speed to Remains Unbeaten in Conference Standings After Win Over Arcadia

Pride sit at 7-1 (4-1 MAC) heading into Senior Day

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Widener Men's Swimming showed their toughness in win over Arcadia to push their win streak to four.
 
The 138-124 win advances the Pride to 7-1 in the regular season and 4-0 in MAC standings. The Pride close out their regular season with a 5-0 record in away meets.
 
Matt Niro, Dan Jackson, Shane Douthit, and Jadyn Manning opened the meet with a quick 1:39.69 win in the 200-yard medley relay out touching the Knights by .5.
 
Jason Mongiovi split the 1000-yard free with a 10:30.94.
 
Jackson picked up his second win of the meet in the 200-yard free to win by four seconds. His time would put him under the 1:50 mark with a 1:48.72.
 
Niro and Patrick Rauch snuck into a 2-3 placement in the 100-yard backstroke. Niro would touch in a 56.19 while Rauch in a 57.64.
 
In the 200-yard butterfly, Mongiovi took first by a dominating amount of time, winning by 10 seconds, registering a 1:59.90. Adam Bailey picked up a third-place finish with a 2:11.26.
 
Sprint specialist, Douthit led a 1-2 finish in the 50-yard free with a 22.39. Manning would follow just .09 behind with a 22.48 to out touch a charging Knights' swimmer.
 
Out of the break, Douthit and Manning again showed their sprint skills with a 2-3 finish in the 100-yard free. Douthit just missed a first with a 49.82 and Manning again out touched a Knights' swimmer with a 50.97.
 
Mongiovi snagged his second win in the 200-yard breaststroke where he registered a 2:13.09 to win by three seconds.
 
Jackson picked up a second win in the 500-yard free. Jackson would sneak into first with a 4:58.24. Two events later, he would close out his individual day with another win in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:03.78.
 
Niro would lead a 1-2 charge in the 100-yard butterfly. Niro, followed by Joshua Cunningham, would hit in 54.52 while Cunningham finished in a 55.13.
 
In the final event of the morning, the team of Manning, Mongiovi, Cunningham, and Douthit took a final win home in the 400-yard free relay. The quad touched first in a 3:23.32 to seal the 131 thresh hold.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the pool for the final time this regular season on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Pride will host Misericordia and Ramapo in a tri-meet with a 1 p.m. first splash and will honor their senior class pre-meet.
