Samuel Knowles Helps Lead the Pride to a Second Place at the Golden Rams Invitational

Knowles places first in the 200 and 400-meter dash

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Personal bests fall as Widener men's track and field hit the competition at the West Chester University Golden Rams Invitational.
 
Widener placed second with 100 team points falling 65.5 points behind the Golden Rams.
 
TRACK
 
On the track, Jacob Cappiello hit a new personal best mark in the 100-meter dash to grab a time of 11.56 and a MAC standard.
 
Samuel Knowles grabbed his first gold of the meet in the 200-meter dash to finish just 0.05 seconds slower than his indoor MAC Championship time of 22.35. Brion McNear also grabbed a new personal best with a 23.40 and a MAC standard. Knowles earned an AARTFC standard with his time.
 
Knowles capped off his day with another gold in the 400-meter dash. His 48.18 dash just missed his NCAA time set earlier this year but was good enough to earn MAC and AARTFC standards. McNear again followed Knowles with a 51.66, a new personal best, and MAC time standard.
 
Thomas Flear led the Pride to a fourth-place finish in the mile with his 4:09.32 run which earned him a MAC outdoor standard. Junior Thomas Plunkett snuck into team scoring with a 4:14.02.
 
In the 400-meter hurdles, Ben Miller took a third-place finish home and a new personal best as he clocked a 58.15 run. His time was good for a MAC qualification.
 
The duo of David Millar and Joseph Nescio set new personal bests and each grabbed a MAC time in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Millar took home a gold with a 10:05.47 while Nescio grabbed a third and a 10:11.89.
 
FIELD
 
In the field, first year Aidan Wilson set a new personal best in the pole vault with a mark of 2.85-meters to place fourth in the event.
 
The shot put featured the heavy hitters for the Pride as Alden Littlefield, David Waters, and Alex Kristeller threw MAC qualification marks and Littlefield added an AARTFC standard. Littlefield finished second with a distance of 16.83-meters while Waters (14.14) and Kristeller (13.96) finished fifth and sixth respectively.
 
The discus again featured Kristeller and Littlefield but this time Kristeller led the charge with a fifth-place finish and MAC qualification with a 40.66-meter toss. Jared Ware split the two with a 40.21-meter throw as Littlefield trailed with a 37.44-meter mark.
 
Junior Justin Adams brought home a bronze and a mark of 51.47-meters in the hammer throw. Teammate Conrad Howell stayed consistent with his six throws to finish with a 48.32-meter throw to fall a meter shy of his personal best. Waters wrapped up his day with a throw of 44.34-meters. Adams and Howell earned MAC and AARTFC qualifications while Waters tacked on a MAC standard.
 
UP NEXT
Widener makes the trip back to West Chester for the West Chester University Bill Butler Invitational on Saturday, April 15. Event start times are to be determined.
