Men’s Track and Field Split to Head to Princeton and West Chester

PRINCETON, N.J. / WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Widener men's track and field hit the road again back to West Chester for the Bill Butler Invite and added a stop to the Larry Ellis Invite in Princeton.

Alex Kristeller took the trip to Princeton on Friday evening to compete in the elite hammer throw. Kristeller's mark of 64.19-meters set a new personal best to top his previous mark of 62.39-meter mark from the 2022 AARTFC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The 64.19-meter throw earned MAC and AARTFC qualifications.
 
Justin Adams also competed in the hammer throw in the B Section and also set a new personal best with a mark of 56.27-meters. Adams' previous mark was from last year at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier meet where he threw a 51.06-meter throw.
 
WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY BILL BUTLER INVITATIONAL
 
Just down the road from Widener in West Chester the remainder of the men competed at the Bill Butler Invitational.
 
On the track in the 100-meter dash, Samuel Knowles continued his display his speed as he ran a 11.10 second race. Knowles was followed by Dereck Darden (11.59), Brion McNear (11.62), and Alex Stempin (11.62). All earned MAC qualifications while Knowles also picked up an AARTFC standard.
 
Josh Schreiner was the lone Pride member in the 400-meter dash where he hit a mark of 52.12 to earn a MAC qualification.
 
In the 800-meter run, Thomas Plunkett was the only Pride member under MAC qualification pace. Plunkett's 1:58.13 set a new personal best.
 
A pack of Pride distance runners led by David Millar in the 1500-meter run all earned qualifications to the conference meet while three also picked up AARTFC standards. Millar's time of 3:59.26 was the only mark to break the four-minute barrier. Thomas Flear (4:00.72), Patrick Carolan (4:00.82), and Joseph Cardie (4:03.26) followed closely.
 
The Pride entered one relay team in the 4x100-meter relay which consisted of Darden, Jacob Cappiello, Stempin, and Knowles. The quartet ran a 43.32 second race to place fourth and earn an AARTFC invitation.
 
On the field, David Waters converted two successful throws in the shot-put hitting marks of 13.88-meters and 13.59-meters. His 13.99-meter mark earned a MAC qualification.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns home on Friday and Saturday to host the Widener Invitational. Throwing events will kick off the meet on Friday while the running portion will begin on Saturday.
