NEW ORLEANS – Six Widener men's track and field athletes have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Honors.
According to the conference, "To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in their respective region according to the final [Track and Field Results Reporting System] data or be part of top-3 relay team."
Out of the 66 individuals named to this list in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), 25 were men.
The athletes that have been named to this honor include junior
Justin Adams (weight throw), senior
Pat Carolan (3,000m and 5,000m), sophomore
Samuel Knowles (400m), junior
Alex Kristeller (shot put, weight throw), graduate student
Alden Littlefield (shot put, weight throw), and sophomore
David Millar (5,000m).
At the AARTFC Championships this past weekend, Knowles, Littlefield, Kristeller, and Adams competed.
Knowles clocked in at 47.9 seconds in the 400 meters, which was .03 seconds off from first place. However, Knowles' run shattered Widener's school record, which he previously held. In the conference, Knowles ranks first in 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x200 relay, and 4x400 relay.
Adams threw for 16.98m, which was sixth-best. His throw of 17.07m from January ranks fourth in the conference.
Littlefield was the top athlete in shot put at the event with 16.36m. He ranks first in shot put in the MAC with 16.86m. He also sits at third in the conference for weight throw, clocking in at 17.52m.
Kristeller came in first for weight throw at the AARTFC Championships. He hit 19.45m. He ranks first in weight throw, just ahead of Littlefield and Adams, with 20.27m in the conference. He was the only athlete to hit over 20m in the conference for weight throw.
While Carolan and Millar were not at the AARTFC Championships, they still have made an impact at meets. Carolan ranks first in the conference for 3000 and 5000 meters. Meanwhile, Millar is fourth in the mile, fourth in 5000 meters, and part of the quartet that was good enough for fourth in the 4x800 relay this year.
Littlefield, Knowles, and Kristeller will be in Birmingham, Ala. from March 10-11 for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
