ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Widener women's basketball team came up short against the Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley, losing 60-68 at Sorrentino Gymnasium.
The Pride is now 8-14 on the season and 5-8 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jordan D'Ambrosio and Mia Robbins led the Pride offense, both scoring 14 points on the night.
- Robbins and Lindsey Kutz both tallied double-doubles in points and rebounds.
- Defensively, Mary McFillin blocked three shots and the Pride grabbed 43 rebounds against the Dutchmen's 34.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST THE LEBANON VALLEY
The Pride offense got things moving right away after a
Jordan D'Ambrosio jumper in the paint got the Pride on the board. Widener and LVC went back and forth and pair of good foul shots with 6:14 on the clock put the Dutchmen ahead by six, leading the Pride 10-4 and seeing their largest lead of the quarter. A three-pointer by D'Ambrosio and layups by
Mia Robbins and Lindsey Kutz kept the offense moving and Widener finished the first quarter down, 11-14.
Widener came out in the second quarter looking to take over the Dutchmen but struggled to gain the lead. The Pride scored eleven points in the ten minutes compared to the Dutchmen's 15.
Robbins got the Blue and Gold started, scoring in the paint with 9:05 on the clock. Answered by a good three-pointer from LVC's Jordan Zimmerman, the Dutchmen were then ahead by six. Widener's next basket came at 6:56 when
Mary McFillin found Gianna Samules for two points. Two layups in the paint from Robbins within a minute of eachother put the Pride down by four. The Dutchmen quickly responded with a jumper, but Kutz put up two more to keep the score gap at four. A good free throw by Kimmy Casiello finished the Pride's second quarter with the score sitting at 22-31. The Pride went 10-30 from the floor this half and 1-8 from the arches.
Coming out in the second half, the Pride battled to close the score gap but were unable to get ahead. D'Ambrosio capitalized off of a defensive rebound and turned it into two points for WIdener. With 7:21 on the clock, Kutz closed the score gap to three points after scoring in the paint and the score sitting at 28-31. A good Dutchmen three-pointer put LVC on a scoring run and the Dutchmen went on to push the gap to ten points with 4:52 on the clock. Widener chipped in a few more baskets from
Rachel Ludwig and D'Ambrosio, who kept the offense moving. With 0:48 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Casiello drained a three-pointer and the Pride headed into the fourth, 40-47.
Looking to find some answers to finish the game out on top, Robbins found some points in the paint, but with 5:54 on the clock, the score sat at 48-58 in favor of the Dutchmen.
LVC's Stabler went on to score four for the Dutchmen and Casiello answered with a three-pointer for the Blue and Gold. Casiello was 2-2 tonight behind the arches. Back-to-back points from
Mary McFillin got the Pride at 56 points to the Dutchmen's 64. A foul put Casiello at the line where she made both attempts and the Pride's last bucket of the night came from Kutz off jumper in the paint. The Pride shot 50% from the floor and from behind the arches in the fourth.
