Boxscore CHESTER, Pa- The Widener women's basketball picked up a win against the Hood Blazers in a MAC Conference game at Schwartz Athletic Center Saturday afternoon, walking away with a 94-72 win.
The Pride is now 9-14 on the season and 6-8 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOOD
The Pride got off to a slow start against the Blazers, but a Gianna Samuels three-pointer at 7:37 on the clock put the Pride on the board, down 6-3. The two teams saw an incredibly competitive first quarter, going back and forth and never seeing a score gap greater than four points. Jordan D'Ambrosio got Widener ahead, scoring four points by driving to the basket and putting the score at 9-6 with 6:31 on the clock. Both teams saw an offensive lull for two minutes but a step-back jumper by Hood's Lele Wright broke the silence. Ava Baer quickly responded with a good layup. D'Ambrosio found Mary McFillin for three, but the Blazers turned it around and tied the score 14-14. Lia Samuels found herself at the line two times with a minute remaining and gave the Pride four points to push the Pride ahead by three. A good layup by Baer and a pair of free throws by Lindsey Kutz finished the quarter with the Pride up by five. The Pride went 8-10 at the free-throw line this quarter.
Coming out in the second quarter, the Pride got things moving right away after a good jumper by Rachael Ludwig found its way in the basket. Lia Samuels started heating up in the second, grabbing a steal, and keeping the Blazer offense on their toes. Samuels sunk two free throws at 7:39 and put the score at 30-25. With seven minutes remaining, Widener saw a steal from Gianna Samuels that turned into a bucket for D'Ambrosio followed by a driving layup by Robbins. Another steal and fast break layup at 5:17 by D'Ambrosio put Widener ahead by 15. The Pride finished out the half ahead by 16 points. Widener had four steals and scored 26 points this quarter, 16 coming off a fast break.
Looking to keep and extend their lead, Mia Robbins got two more for the Pride right away after a driving layup dropped in off an assist by Kimmy Casiello. Kutz kept the pace, scoring four points in less than a minute. A good free throw by Kutz with 5:23 remaining put the Pride ahead by twenty points. A good Blazer jumper by Marlise Newson closed the gap to 13 points but layups by Baer and D'Ambrosio kept the Pride ahead. With less than a minute remaining, two points from Robbins down low put the Pride ahead 73-56 to finish the third quarter. Pride shot 55% from the floor this quarter.
Widener stayed hot coming out for the fourth as Gianna Samuels found three points off a Kutz assist thirty seconds into the quarter. An offensive foul put D'Ambrosio at the line where she sunk both shots and put the score at 78-56. A new squad slowly started to appear for the Pride, and with 6:38 left in the game, Jada Allen grabbed a defensive rebound and found herself at the line, where she scored both attempts. Mary Tolentino grabbed a steal and found herself at the line too, sinking both shots, with 5:33 left. Two points for Maddie Allen from a Gianna Samuel's assist put Widener ahead by 31 points. A good layup from Aubrey Curley with a minute left sealed the victory for the Pride, finishing the game 94-72.
