ANNVILLE, Pa. – Widener men's basketball secured a 69-60 win against the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen on Wednesday, which gave them the season sweep against their conference foe. Widener is still in the hunt to catch Alvernia for the top seed in the conference.
The Pride sit at 15-7 in the regular season (9-4 in the MAC Commonwealth).
BY THE NUMBERS
- Dominic Dunn was once again the Pride's lead scorer, as he got 18 points for the evening. He also collected 10 rebounds, which was second-most on the team.
- The Pride dominated on the glass, grabbing 17 offensive rebounds. Kenny Lewis was responsible for four of them.
- Widener recorded four steals and two blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT SORRENTINO GYMNASIUM

Pat Holden layup was the first bucket for either side. After Widener attained an early 5-1 lead, Lebanon Valley jumped ahead of the Pride a few minutes later. With under 12 minutes left in the half, Widener got back-to-back makes from Lewis and Dunn. The score was 16-13 Lebanon Valley. Despite the Pride's attempts to keep the score within three or so points, the Dutchmen continued to counter their opponent's offense. A three from Holden cut the deficit to 24-21 with 3:35 remaining. Widener even got to within one point on a triple from
Luke Mazur with 1:44 left. The two teams each exchanged one triple to end the half, with the Pride's coming from Dunn. After the first 20 minutes of action, the Dutchmen led 33-30. The Pride hit 5-18 (27.8%) from downtown, converted 5-8 (62.5%) free throws, and collected more offensive rebounds than Lebanon Valley (7-6).
Kevin Schenk began the second half for Widener with a pull-up jumper. Two consecutive Holden triples moments later gave Widener the lead, 38-37. Although the Dutchmen tried to avoid giving up their momentum from the first half, Widener's will to win was strong. With 12:39 left, a Lewis layup got the Pride within five points. As Lebanon Valley pushed back, and now down by nine, the Pride's offense became red hot. They went on a 15-0 run to make the score 60-54, which forced a timeout for the Dutchmen. Lebanon Valley tried to recover in the final minutes, but it was too late. A pair of Dunn free throws sealed the game. The Pride won with the final score at 69-60. For the second half, the Pride outscored Lebanon Valley 39-27. They also got six more points on triples than the Dutchmen and won the rebounding battle 30-16 (10 of those 30 were on the offensive side).

The Pride only have three regular-season games left. They are back home on Saturday to take on the Hood College Blazers, who are right behind the Pride in the playoff standings. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
