CHESTER, Pa. – A beautiful football afternoon for Widener Football shows defensive strengths as
Ryan Wilson ties single season interception record.
The 41-10 win puts the Pride at 7-2 in the regular season and moves them to 6-2 in the MAC.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride rack 381 total offensive yards on 67 plays and 21 first downs.
- Chase Diehl led the offense with 310 passing yards with a long of 45 yards.
- On the ground, Shawn Thompson rushed for 30 yards with a touchdown and a passing touchdown.
- Isaac Hostetter led the air game with eight receptions and 143 total yards with two touchdowns.
- Wilson totals eight tackles with three interceptions for 25 yards of return. Colin Murt ties Wilson with eight tackles.
- Ryan Pattison went 6-for-6 on PAT's as Jakob Bojko averaged 55.1 yards per kickoff.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just over halfway through the first, Hostetter opened the scoring with a 17-yard reception from Diehl to cap a 14 play, 64-yard drive after a Joshua Salter pick. Thompson punched in a 4-yard rush later in the quarter to push the score to 14 for the Pride. With 6:40 left, Wilson snagged his first interception with a 19-yard return to the WID49. Wilson's second interception came with 1:23 left to end the 2-yard Eagles drive.
- Opening the second quarter, a Thompson trick play gave the pride a 21-point lead as Vanscovich snagged a 9-yard touchdown pass. The Eagles would answer later in the quarter with a touchdown of their own with 6:02 remaining. Heading into halftime, the Pride led 21-10.
- Right out of halftime, the Pride drove 72 yards which capped a 9-play drive with a Damique Stokes 1-yard pass. Series from both sides ended in punts as a deep ball down the right side to Jordan Baxter set the Pride up inside the EAG6. Bryce Casey punched in a 6-yard run to score with 2:26 remaining.
- Wilson would stop the Eagles once more to open the fourth quarter as Matt Harrer pressured Sabor Stevens of the Eagles. Wilson grabbed the third interception at the WID32 for a 6-yard return. Another deep ball from Diehl down the middle gave Hostetter his second touchdown of the game to push the score to 41-10. Mike Caloiaro and Kevin Mowrey would enter the game for the final series and receive snaps.
