DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The annual Keystone Cup on Saturday afternoon for Widener Football closed out the regular season in a tough loss.
The 23-6 loss drops the Pride to 7-3 during the regular season and puts the Pride at 6-3 in MAC play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Leading the offense, Chase Diehl threw for 123 yards with a long of 23.
- Shawn Thompson led the ground game with 13 yards.
- Three receivers snagged more than 30 yards in the air.
- Joshua Salter led the Pride with nine tackles and an interception
- Jacob Kopelman snags pick-six for 52-yard return.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride defense began strong, holding the Aggies to four consecutive drives resulting in punts. The Pride offense was slowed as they put up 19 total offensive yards to the Aggies 10.
- Following a defensive battle in the first, the Pride defense began to bow. An Aggies touchdown would break any scoring drought with 11:59 remaining in the second. Heading into half, the Pride were down 14 after holding the Aggies to only 104 yards of total offense.
- Kopelman and the defense broke through the Aggies offensive line with tackles from Nate Brown, Cade Brennan, and Salter. Later in the third, Kopelman's interception at the WID48 ended as a pick-six to put the Pride on the board. A failed two-point conversion would keep the score 16-6.
- Heading into the fourth down 10, the Pride looked to gain offensive momentum. The defense looked to hold strong with every drive resulting in punts with the exception of the Aggies first. On the afternoon, the Blue and Gold totaled only 81-yards of total offense with six first downs.
