2023 Widener Football Season Concludes at ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl in Upstate New York

Pride conclude season with best record since 2021

TROY, N.Y. – In the first ECAC Bowl Game since 2011, Widener Football put up a fight against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers.
 
A 49-21 loss ends the Pride season 7-4 and 6-3 in the MAC.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED IN TROY
  • Diehl and the Pride struck first with a 8:23 in the first on a 15-yard pass to Hostetter. The drive capped a 11 play-61 yard series to take an early lead.
  • A slow second quarter for the Pride resulted in multiple punt series from the Pride offense and a handful of Murt, Michael Schoenleber, and T. Thompson tackles. The second quarter the Pride no points on the board.
  • Out of halftime the offense gained some momentum with 14 points in the third. After 10 minutes of game time, Caloiaro dished out a 9-yard pass to Hostetter to score his second touchdown of the game. The series featured a 10 play-71 yard drive to take 3:45 off the clock. The preceding series, Caloiaro aired a 27-yard ball out to Jordan Baxter to score a touchdown. The score heading into the fourth favored RPI.
  • The Pride offense headed into the fourth looking to continue their momentum but was slowed by a strong RPI defense. The Blue and Gold's game came to an end after an interception, lost fumble, and a punt in the fourth. On the day, the Pride hold the ball for 38:27 minutes of play.
