NEW YORK, N.Y. – In the first of two games Widener women's basketball will play in the Hunter Tournament, the Pride beat the St. Joseph's Brooklyn Bears 80-56 on Friday.
The Pride are 4-0 on the season. Their first MAC game is on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Hood.
BY THE NUMBERS

- The Pride got 24 points from the bench unit.
- Twenty of Widener's 43 rebounds were on the offensive side.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ST. JOSEPH'S BROOKLYN
- Although the Bears scored first, a Mary McFillin three gave Widener their first points of the game. They would use a 10-2 run to go up by eight points early on. In that stretch, McFillin hit a few threes, and she recorded an assist and a steal. St. Joseph's Brooklyn would get some buckets back, even cutting their deficit to three with five minutes left in the quarter. McFillin and Mia Robbins, though, made sure the Pride's lead did not slip. The score was 21-16 Widener after one quarter.
- Until Lindsay Kutz hit a triple 90 seconds into the second quarter, both sides had gone scoreless. Multiple missed shots and turnovers by the Bears allowed the Pride to score seven straight points. Widener would capitalize on more St. Joseph's Brooklyn turnovers and missed shots, which gave Robbins and Lia Samuels chances to add to the lead. Neither team would score for the final 57 seconds, as the Pride held a 34-25 advantage going into halftime.
- The Bears began the third quarter with an immediate turnover on a D'Ambrosio steal. Kutz would eventually hit a jumper for the Pride's first successful shot of the half. This was Widener's strongest quarter, as they scored 27 of their 80 points. They would build a 19-point lead at one point in the quarter. Robbins and Kutz were the team's engine in the third, something St. Joseph's Brooklyn could not contain. After three, the score was 61-43 Widener.
- A Kimberly Casiello jumper was not only her lone score of the game, but it began the Pride's scoring in the fourth quarter. A 9-0 outburst in the middle of the final quarter put Widener up 22 points. The Bears would never make a serious push to counter Widener's advantage. Jada Allen scored the final bucket for either side, and the Pride earned the 80-56 win.
