READING, Pa. – Although Widener women's soccer had their second straight tie of the season on Saturday, a 2-2 decision against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves, the Pride will now prepare for the playoffs. They have clinched a spot in the MAC postseason.
The Pride finish the regular season with a 5-6-6 record. They were 3-2-2 against MAC opponents.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride had 14 shots (six on goal). The Golden Wolves had 18 shots (10 on goal).
- The Golden Wolves led the battle of corner kicks, 7-1.
- In goal, Samantha Coon made eight saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- The Golden Wolves got on the board first at 27:24. But, Widener answered back with a goal at 33:09. Emily Friel scored on an assist by Maura Graves.
- Both teams wouldn't score again until late in the second half. Alvernia countered with a 2-1 lead at 74:43. However, Alyssa Carman took things into her own hands and scored just 15 seconds later. That would be the final goal on either side.
- Looking to break the tie, Alvernia's Hailey Strain took a shot at the bottom right corner, but Coon made the save.
- Kelly Barr led Widener with five shots (two on goal). Carman was right behind Barr with four shots.
- There were no yellow or red cards in this match.

The Pride will be on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 31 to face the York College Spartans as part of the MAC Semifinals. The match will begin at 7 p.m.
