YORK, Pa. – Widener women's soccer, despite a great season where they fought hard for a berth in the MAC postseason, fell to the York College Spartans 2-0 on Tuesday. The loss eliminated the Pride from the playoffs.
The Pride had a 5-7-6 record in 2023, and they were 3-2-2 against MAC opponents.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride had 11 shots (four on goal). The Spartans had 14 shots (nine on goal).
- York had six corner kicks, compared to five from Widener.
- Samantha Coon made seven saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK
- York started the match with a header shot at 4:22. It was saved by Coon.
- Although the Pride only had two shots in the first half, they were more aggressive in the second half. They had nine shots in the remaining 45 minutes.
- Kelly Barr led the Pride with five shots (two on goal). Alyssa Carman took three shots (two on goal).
- Widener kept York scoreless for 20 minutes before the Spartans knocked in their first goal. They wouldn't score again for another 53 minutes.
